Arts Coursetaking Report

Beginning with the 2019-2020 School Year, the arts course list was updated to include a new arts subject category of "Media Arts". In addition, a number of arts courses were reclassified from the "General Arts" category to "Visual Arts" to more closely align to the industry standard. In 2022, courses were no longer assigned to the "General" category.

For the purposes of consistency in data formatting, dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts are identified as "arts subjects". However, it is important to understand that the terminology may vary often within the arts education community, such as identifying the arts as "content areas." The 2019 Arts Curriculum Framework uses the word "disciplines" as well, which can apply to both in-school learning and professional practice.
