Annual Goals
This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed. Data last updated October, 04 2023.

Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
Goal #1 |
Early field experiences in our 4&1 initial license programs have increased significantly. Students enrolled in the programs now complete 180 hours in the field during their junior and senior years. Students are placed in our partnership districts and are visited by program supervisors at least two times during each semester. We hope to be able to increase the number of hours in the next year. |
Goal #2 |
We are looking to recruit and hire additional staff to establish and oversee the early field experiences in our 4&1 programs. This staff will be charged with developing policies and protocols pertaining the the professional dispositions of our candidates. |
Goal #3 |
New lesson plan development and pilot- In 2017 we will develop and pilot a new lesson plan assessment to be used in all initial teaching programs. Once the lesson plan has been accepted and approved by faculty we will begin implementation and data collection in Fall 2018. |

Goal #1 |
Salem State University has received a Mixed Reality Simulations grant which will allows an opportunity for us to be part of a state-wide working group to develop and setup mixed-reality simulation technology at Salem State University. The 4 new avatars and 12–16 simulation scenarios are specific to Massachusetts classrooms, and will provide a virtual practice space for our candidates. |
Goal #2 |
Salem State University has received a grant to increase its efforts in diversity in education by creating initiatives to attract and support students of color. A collaboration among Salem State University, Bunker Hill Community College and the school districts of Salem, Chelsea, Revere, Everett and Malden. The goal is to create a workforce pipeline that brings today's high school students successfully through an associate's degree at Bunker Hill, into the combined bachelor's/master's degree at Salem State, and back to each of these cities as licensed teachers |
Goal #3 |
Salem State has requested a formative review and evaluation with feedback through TPI-US and the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This evaluation is not part of any approval or accreditation process, but is meant to provide our programs with focused feedback on ways in which the program can improve. |

Continue to align assessment practices and academic programs to CAEP accreditation and state standards. |

Initiate, build and formalize community partnerships with new schools and districts. |
Goal #3 |
Expand department's Student Services Advising Office to include Graduate representation. |
