Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 Salem State University has received a Mixed Reality Simulations grant which will allows an opportunity for us to be part of a state-wide working group to develop and setup mixed-reality simulation technology at Salem State University. The 4 new avatars and 12–16 simulation scenarios are specific to Massachusetts classrooms, and will provide a virtual practice space for our candidates.
Goal #2 Salem State University has received a grant to increase its efforts in diversity in education by creating initiatives to attract and support students of color. A collaboration among Salem State University, Bunker Hill Community College and the school districts of Salem, Chelsea, Revere, Everett and Malden. The goal is to create a workforce pipeline that brings today's high school students successfully through an associate's degree at Bunker Hill, into the combined bachelor's/master's degree at Salem State, and back to each of these cities as licensed teachers
Goal #3 Salem State has requested a formative review and evaluation with feedback through TPI-US and the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This evaluation is not part of any approval or accreditation process, but is meant to provide our programs with focused feedback on ways in which the program can improve.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Continue to align assessment practices and academic programs to CAEP accreditation and state standards.
Goal #2 Initiate, build and formalize community partnerships with new schools and districts.
Goal #3 Expand department's Student Services Advising Office to include Graduate representation.

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 We are continuing to align assessment practices and academic programs to CAEP accreditation and state standards.
Goal #2 We established partnerships with new school districts and formalized agreements with several individual schools and districts.
Goal #3 We hired a full time administrator dedicated to advising Graduate students and have expanded our student services advising office to include evening hours.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Establish student services center to assist students with advising and programmatic questions.
Goal #2 Finalize and gain approval for 4+ 1 combined undergraduate and graduate program.
Goal #3 Establish new undergraduate educational majors for early education and care and educational studies.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Establish student services center to assist students with advising and programmatic questions. Completed: Successful implementation
Goal #2 Finalize and gain approval for 4+ 1 combined undergraduate and graduate program. Completed: Admission to program begins in Fall 2016
Goal #3 Establish new undergraduate educational majors for early education and care and educational studies Completed: Coursework offered in Spring 2016 and enrollments were steady.
