Level2
One or more schools in the district classified into Level 2 - Low assessment participation (Less than 95%)

Most schools are assigned a level from 1-5, with those meeting their proficiency gap-narrowing goals in Level 1 and the lowest performing in Levels 4 and 5. A district is typically assigned a level based on the level of its lowest performing school. Placing schools and districts into levels helps districts know which schools need more support, and helps the state know which districts need the most assistance. What else should you know about our school?
The John P. Oldham School uses a cooperative model of teaching, student learning, and family involvement as an overarching philosophy to increase academic achievement. To help sustain high student learning levels, we utilize the Open Circle Curriculum to increase pro-social skills, decrease violence and other problem behaviors, and support easier transitions throughout the school building. The major components of the model include using best teaching practices and increasing instructional time in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Technology along with providing enrichment programs for students. The enrichment programs are underwritten by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) of the school and have included anti-bullying and building self-esteem presentations, local author visits, library rewards programs, and performing arts events. Presentations in mathematics and science have also been presented by the staff from various resources including the Children's Museum and the New England Aquarium. With this model in place, the school has experienced high levels of student achievement. Additionally, the PTO has been active with fundraising and grant writing to sustain our programs and continues to be an integral part of the school community.
