Organization Description:  The Hastings Middle School is the only middle school in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Students from four elementary schools feed into this school housing approximately 636 students in grades 6-8. Grouped into teams, students are offered courses in reading, language arts, math, science and social studies on a daily basis. Grade eight students are also offered a foreign language as an academic subject. Additionally, students are offered exploratory courses in food science, art, health, physical education, foreign language, technology education, computers, chorus, general music and instrumental. Title One and special education services are offered on an as needed basis. Several clubs and after school programs are offered as well and include Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, Yearbook, Newspaper, Babysitting, and Food Science. The School Advisory Council and PTO are very active and involved in the school. The vision of the Hastings Middle School is that it will be a safe haven where academic excellence, developmental responsiveness and social equity exist for all students. Our mission is to provide an educational program of the highest quality that addresses the personal, social, intellectual, and physical development of preadolescent youngsters. We shall strive to provide each and every student with the values, knowledge, and skills needed to achieve full potential in our changing and diverse society.
