Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Fully implement the professional standards for teachers into initial licensure programs.
Goal #2 Provide more training and support for supervising practitioners and program supervisors that will effectively impact the learning experience of our candidates in the practicum.
Goal #3 Build a residency program for elementary candidates at a high need school in collaboration with district/school partners

Annual Goals - 2014
Goal #1 Increase the number of partnerships with PK-12 schools in all educator preparation programs.
Goal #2 Increase the number of visits to principal candidates during the practicum.
Goal #3 Restructure the secondary program to include more emphasis on teaching students with moderate disabilities.

Progress Toward Goals - 2014
Goal #1 Established Partnership Boards in three programs. Teach the SEI course in a Lowell School and candidates tutor students. Three elementary methods courses are now taught in partnership local schools and candidates work with small groups of students (history, social studies, math).
Goal #2 The number of observation visits to candidates in the principal licensure program increased from three to five beginning with the Fall 2014 cohort.
Goal #3 All candidates in the middle/secondary programs are now required to take the course Methods of Teaching Students with Moderate Disabilities as part of their required program of study.

Annual Goals - 2013
Goal #1 Include more field experiences and instruction in data analysis in the middle/secondary education programs.
Goal #2 Work with elementary students to get the add on moderate disabilities license.
Goal #3 Identify ways in which we can better prepare candidates to work with ELL students.

Progress Toward Goals - 2013
Goal #1 Each of the subject areas Science, English, and History now have experiences in schools during their methods courses. All subjects must engage in multiple field experiences for the course Teaching English Language Learners. The prepracticum is structured for candidates to visit suburban and urban settings and to teach a lesson. Data analysis of student assessment results is part of the pre-practicum seminar.
Goal #2 The add-on license is now in place. Upon completion of the elementary program, candidates take an additional 9 credits, which includes a practicum. To encourage and support candidates to continue in the program, we made scholarships available to them .Candidates are spending at least 18 weeks in school settings as a result of adding on the moderate disabilities work.
Goal #3 Both the elementary and secondary education programs now include the required Teaching English Language Learners course and receive SEI endorsement. As a result of a federal grant, candidates in the initial licensure program are eligible to take additional ELL courses and an internship to attain an ELL license.
