| What else should you know about our school? |
Coakley Middle School is enriched by the diversity of its student population, including an array of ethnicities, races, countries of origin and native languages. The schools positive culture and climate stems from a community value of service, with participation in projects such as intergenerational literacy programs, fundraisers for Franciscan Childrens Hospital and the Jimmy Fund as well as an annual involvement in Project 351. Additionally last year, we have added the Roots and Wings Teen Speak-out Program, training student mentors to help define and better our school culture and climate. All of these components as well as our emphasis on a strength-based approach to discipline and focus on parent communication and involvement have further enhanced a school culture based upon the values of respect and responsibility.
The school focuses on collaborative instructional practices embedded in standards-based lessons that serve to develop its students capacity for critical thinking, Within the academic realm, Coakley students have excelled as finalists for the National History Day contest, award winners in essay and music and art competitions. The Coakley Middle School offers a vibrant after-school enrichment programs such as an honor band, chorus and orchestra as well as an Artist Circle. The CMS Math is renowned for its dedicated members and students will again be participating in the SEARCH trip to Williamsburg, Virginia to conduct primary-source research. Students also participate in school-sponsored enrichment programs, including a student/faculty book club, The Coakley Insider media club, student council and intramurals. All of these enrichment programs combined with a rigorous academic setting create and engaging learning environment for our students at Coakley Middle School.
