| What else should you know about our school? |
| Burncoat Middle School is an urban middle school which serves approximately 560 students. It is located in the Burncoat Quadrant and is part of the Worcester Public Schools Arts Magnet program, which draws students from all over the city who have an interest in the arts. Middle school students are able to take a class in dance, music, visual arts, media arts or theater. Our students experience individual lessons, live performances, master classes and demonstrations in the art of their choosing. Students are then able to move on to the high school and deepen their knowledge of the arts. Students may participate in the arts with no prior experience. This is a developmental program which allows students to experience something they might not otherwise. More than 250 students participate solely in the arts. If a student does not wish to major in an art they can take a variety of mini-classes to expose them to some of the arts. In addition to the arts Burncoat Middle School has a cohesive approach to teaching reading and writing in all content areas. This is done through a school wide initiative that uses close reading strategies aligned to using Self-Regulated Strategy Development. At Burncoat Middle School we believe students can be successful through hard work and effort. |
