Admissions Requirements

Below is a summary of admissions requirements for educator preparation programs at the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels followed by a more detailed description of admissions requirements. All information is reported by the educator preparation provider.


Description of Admissions Requirements

Baccalaureate Programs:
Admission to Student Teaching requires: an overall GPA of 2.8 and a 2.8 GPA in Education courses, completion of all coursework required for liberal arts degree and all Education courses, passing scores on all relevant MTEL exams, an application for student teaching, references from at least two people with whom the student has worked in an educational setting, and an interview with two members of the Education Department faculty. www.mcla.edu

Post-baccalaureate Programs:
Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Teacher licensure candidates may request a preliminary transcript review by the office of Graduate and Continuing Education to determine extent of preparation toward the license the candidate seeks and whether or not content area requirements have been met during previous studies. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required for immediate matriculation. If the GPA is below 3.0, students are required to successfully complete two core courses with grades of B (3.0) or better before enrolling in any other courses. www.mcla.edu
