Partnership Description:
[]Wheelock maintains ongoing agreements with numerous schools and agencies in Boston, Brookline and Cambridge that support the placement of undergraduate students in classrooms and a variety of other settings from their first semester of the first year in college. This experience continues in Jump Start, literacy and Sheltered English Immersion observations and related work in classrooms led by Wheelock Faculty. Arts and Sciences and Education Faculty sustain commitments to and work with specific schools over several years. School faculty collaborate with Wheelock faculty in the design and delivery of Wheelock preparation programs, while teachers in partner schools are also adjunct Wheelock faculty members. On occasion the college and schools operate grant funded initiatives that benefit both the college and the schools. Each year at least 30-40 graduate students are employed by Boston, Brookline, Cambridge and Newton schools through partnership agreements that provide 10-month full time paid interships and in some cases the promise of employment after graduation. Teachers in these communities have completed master's programs in Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education, and Teacher of Reading programs through joint grant funded initiatives with Wheelock.
