Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
| Goal #1 |
Early childhood licensure-We have engaged in a comprehensive review of our program during the 2024-2025 academic year with the aim of submitting materials in May 2025 to offer early childhood, PK-2 licensure for our teacher candidates. Throughout this process we have been in frequent discussion with our colleagues in MA DESE and expect this to continue during the 25-26 academic year as they review our materials. In 2025-2026 we will submit any requested materials to our institution's curriculum committee as part of our efforts to offer this new licensure track. If approved by DESE, we will begin marketing the new licensure track during admissions events and with our current teacher candidates this upcoming year aiming to fully launch the program in Early childhood during the 2026-2027 academic year. |
| Goal #2 |
Prepare for accelerated early literacy program review-We have already begun a comprehensive review of our program to ensure that we are fully addressing the early literacy criteria as outlined by MA DESE. We have made strides in this area as we spent 2024-2025 updating courses and completing the early literacy matrix as part of our review for the early childhood license. These revised courses will be fully implemented beginning 2025-2026, and we will use ongoing collaborations with DESE, feedback from the early childhood review, and ongoing professional collaborations such as the PLCs offered by DESE to make additional revisions this upcoming year. This will help to prepare us for our accelerated early literacy program review scheduled for 2027-2028. |
| Goal #3 |
Fully implement new PSTs and CAP guidelines During the 2024-2025 academic year we successfully piloted the new Professional Standards for Teachers and Candidate Assessment of Performance guidelines. Our Associate Dean of Field Placement and Partnerships participated in a monthly PLC around these updates and initiatives to support this work and to support necessary revisions to our program. Our goal in the 2025-2026 academic year is to move to full implementation of the new PSTS and CAP guidelines. We will continue in-service training for all Program Supervisors in providing the tolls they need for onsite observation and collaboration with Supervising practitioners. |

Educator preparation program improvement goals from the prior year |
| Goal #1 |
In 2024-2025, The School of Education is committed to enhancing Early Childhood Education practices. In 2023, the School of Education successfully proposed two courses focused on Early Childhood Education to Emmanuel's curriculum committee. These courses are designed to integrate the Massachusetts Department of Education Guidelines for Early Learning Experiences, and the Massachusetts Standards for preschool and Kindergarten Social and Emotional Learning, as well as Approaches to Play and Learning. Our next strategic step in 2024-2025 is to seek an informal review for Early Childhood Education initiatives. This review will provide valuable feedback and guidance, to better serve the needs of our students and the community as all districts move to Universal PreK. |
| Goal #2 |
In the academic year 2024-2025, the School of Education will prioritize the integration of literacy across all subject areas. In 2024-2025 we will align our courses with state requirements emphasizing literacy integration as we aim to empower our students to become proficient readers and critical thinkers across all disciplines. To achieve this goal, the School of Education will host a three-day retreat/workshop in August 2024. These days will provide an opportunity for faculty members to collaborate and revise our curriculum to ensure that literacy is seamlessly integrated into all academic subjects. |
| Goal #3 |
The School of Education is dedicated to fostering a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in alignment with our mission to prepare educators who are committed to social justice and serving diverse communities. To advance DEI initiatives, in 2024-2025, the School of Education will continue to collaborate closely with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) at Emmanuel College. Building on the foundation of the CDI's launched certificate program, we will actively engage with CDI to leverage their expertise and resources in our pursuit of inclusive excellence. All faculty and staff within the School of Education will be actively involved in DEI initiatives. Through participation in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions, faculty members will deepen their understanding of DEI principles and strategies. |

Educator preparation program improvement goals from the prior year |
| Goal #1 |
The School of Education will continue to focus on anti-racist, cultural inclusive pedagogy and work with Emmanuel Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office to assist teacher candidates in preparing instructional lessons that include how systems and structures may impact BIPOC, first generation students, students who identify as LGBTQIA, and others. The semester Symposium will continue focus on anti-racist topics. |
| Goal #2 |
The School of Education will launch two new courses in 2023-2024 academic year on Early Childhood education in preparation for an informal/formal review by DESE. The new courses will address the needs presented by our teacher candidates and partnership schools to move toward an additional and add-on license in PreK-Grade 2. The new courses will assist students in understanding areas in PreK-Grade 2: Cognitive development; social and emotional development; creativity and imagination, cultural awareness. |
| Goal #3 |
The School of Education will assist in reviewing and implementing Emmanuel's strategic planning process requested by NEHIC. With updated data, SED will review areas for new growth and development identifying where the School of Education can better align with college-wide and school partnership needs. Additionally, the SED faculty will continue to collaborate on interdisciplinary research with the other Schools at the College (School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Science and Health) |
