Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
| Goal #1 |
The School Counseling Graduate Program will upgrade the applicant interview protocol to include questions about attitudes toward working with diverse populations. We will develop questions that ask students to talk about their previous experiences working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented identities. The interview protocol will also include a question about what applicants have learned from these experiences. In addition, the program will work to improve and expand the recommendation form used for applicants. We will add items that are more relevant to a graduate counseling program. We will add items that provide significant information about an applicant's disposition and attitudes for working with others. |
| Goal #2 |
Assumption's TSMD PreK-8 and elementary licensure programs will review and continue to make adjustments to program requirements to ensure alignment with early literacy program approval criteria and practice levels. Program components to be considered will include, but are not limited to, partnerships, coursework, pre-practicum requirements, gateways, and graduate program oral exams.  |
| Goal #3 |
Assumption's baccalaureate education programs and post-baccalaureate special education programs will continue to update and refine work to align programs with the new Professional Standards for Teachers. This may include, but is not limited to, revisions to: program lesson plan template, gateway forms and procedures, course content and assignments, practicum seminar structure and assignments. |

Educator preparation program improvement goals from the prior year |
| Goal #1 |
The School Counseling Program will develop a candidate assessment for evaluating dispositional factors required for effective and ethical practice. Instruments used nationwide in counselor education programs will be reviewed to develop a comprehensive assessment. The goal will be to use this assessment to evaluate dispositional characteristics of candidates at the end of the pre-practicum experience and at the culmination of their first semester of practicum. The evaluation will be considered a formative assessment at both points in a candidate's educational preparation program. |
| Goal #2 |
Assumption's baccalaureate initial licensure program will use the 'Guidelines for Pre-Practicum Teachers' to update the procedure for completion, collection, and review of Gateway Assessments for each of our licensure programs. |
| Goal #3 |
Assumption's Special Education Program will review the structure of its course on IEPs to ensure it is aligned with recommendations from the IEP Improvement Project. We will review course content, readings/textbook, and assignments and revise accordingly. |
