Annual Goals
This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
| Goal #1 |
Every licensure program and pathway will provide candidates with clear policies and support to successfully complete program requirements by updating handbooks, websites, and other program/pathway documents for 2025-26. |
| Goal #2 |
Collaboratively with the licensure programs and pathways, Educator Preparation will develop a shared calendar for stakeholder feedback data collection, dissemination, and analysis that serve to foster the continuous improvement cycle. |
| Goal #3 |
Every licensure program and pathway will review their course of study to ensure that coursework and practicum experiences meet the requirements laid out in the DESE Professional Standards for Teaching (if applicable), and the content knowledge as articulated in the Subject Matter Knowledge Guidelines. |

| Goal #1 |
Strengthen the relationships between program faculty and school partners, including soliciting greater input from school partners and districts and responding to districts' identified needs regarding goals and practices. |
| Goal #2 |
Align curricula, courses, and course syllabi, as well as scope and sequence and faculty participation, to meet the needs of teacher preparation in the twenty-first century, DESE criteria of CRT and anti-racist teaching and improve K-12 student |

| Goal #1 |
In light of DESE guidance on culturally responsive teaching (CRT), encourage and enable candidates to pursue CRT in their lesson planning and professional development; additionally, provide candidates with strategies to establish work-life balance strategies and recognize the importance of wellbeing and self-care, and create a sense of belonging for candidates within our programs. |
| Goal #2 |
UMass Amherst will continue to improve PK-12 partnerships to ensure the robustness of the partnerships which includes data from key assessments and field experience placement data. |
| Goal #3 |
Ensure that instruction of candidates features principles and strategies of anti-racist practices and culturally responsive teaching and enable candidates to implement these practices in all preparatory and professional teaching experiences. This may entail revisions to current courses and syllabi so that they feature units and readings on these principles and practices. |
