Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
| Goal #1 |
Our goal is to prepare and pilot the departmental plan to make the appropriate adjustments and improvements that align with the updated Massachusetts' guidelines focused on professional standards for teachers, early literacy instruction, and the candidate assessment of performance. This goal is to ensure all teacher candidates are equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to deliver evidence-based, inclusive, and culturally and linguistically sustaining instruction. By aligning our program with the new guidelines set forth by DESE, we aim to assess and enhance our curriculum and training practices. |
| Goal #2 |
During this academic year, we will develop and implement a comprehensive advising resource that includes a dedicated Canvas site and a suite of Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) preparation materials. This resource will be accessible and relevant to all students in the program (both undergraduate and graduate) and will ensure that all students can easily access essential advising information and tailored test preparation resources. |
| Goal #3 |
Our goal is to cultivate and expand community-based partnerships that enrich the educational experiences of our students by providing impactful learning opportunities. Through initiatives such as workshops with MCLA's Assistive Technology Lab and MCLA's Early College program, we aim to create collaborative environments that support experiential learning and foster connections between our students and local communities. By leveraging these partnerships, we aim to foster a community of learning that encourages our students to engage with a range of professionals, encouraging the real-world application of knowledge and resources for the field. |

Educator preparation program improvement goals from the prior year |
| Goal #1 |
The Education Department will initiate the secondary phase of the full review of licensure program curricula. The work of this curriculum review phase will focus on (1) gathering curricula content and materials used in coursework, (2) continue collecting feedback from faculty, partners, and students through interviews and surveys, and (3) begin mapping the curriculum to program outcomes to ensure alignment and coherence across the program. |
| Goal #2 |
The Education Department will work to revise and update the graduate program catalog. This will include a review of all program policies, course titles and descriptions, and program outlines. Any revisions will be put through the college governance model. The finalized catalog will be submitted for online publication on the college's website to mirror the undergraduate online catalog. |
| Goal #3 |
The Education Department will review, revise, and pilot pedagogical and curricular tools and supports for teacher candidates in the area of evidence-based early literacy instruction. This goal is focused on supporting teacher candidates in both deepening their knowledge of literacy development and implementing inclusive and culturally responsive practices. |
