Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2022
Goal #1 Lasell will continue to review the rubric for the Pre-Practicum Gateway Assessment process at both the undergraduate and graduate programs to increase coherence to program goals.
Goal #2 The organization will review the pre-practicum seminar in ED 421 Curriculum Integration to coordinate and integrate more effectively the CAP process and the pre-practicum experience.
Goal #3 Lasell University will develop collect feedback from Supervising Practitioners on the CAP process for candidates. In particular, we are interested in asking what areas or experiences are missing from the current experiences, what are the areas of strengths, and how can we strengthen the connection to seminar and teacher preparation courses.

Annual Goals - 2021
Goal #1 Lasell University will develop short video guidance to clarify the CAP process from log-in to the portal to the candidate evaluation process and forms. We will use the DESE website to support the short how to videos.
Goal #2 Lasell will redesign the full-practicum seminars to include antiracism curriculum, and culturally sustaining practices.
Goal #3 Lasell University will collect and develop a more coherent career services and preparation sessions. The goal is to help candidates begin the career seeking skills in the first year of the program and continue the development each year. Lasell will collect data on student career readiness and develop workshops responsive to the needs of the students to help student have more effective resume, interviewing skills, job-seeking skills, etc.

Annual Goals - 2020
Goal #1 For the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year, Lasell University Education programs will focus on instruction. All education courses in the education licensure programs require students to have pre-practicum experiences of a minimum of 25 hours in each course. In the second-year students take two method courses in teaching reading. To improve instruction, students learn research-based strategies and are expected to teach students in small groups using strategies tried in the classroom. Students upload the videos to the Classforward platform for self, faculty, and peer evaluation. The goal of the video is for the students to reflect on the teaching skills and disposition, evaluate their discrete reading practice and that of the peers against the MA PSTs using the CAP indicators and identify areas for growth and development for the next semester. For students in the fourth year of the program, the students will also use video technology uploaded to the ClassForward platform where they will use a whole class lesson to demonstrate PSTs using the CAP indicators and forms. The goal in the last year of the program is for students to see the connection between well-developed lessons and how they inform teaching practice and student engagement. The students will reflect on lesson planning, delivery, and student learning outcomes as they complete that state CAP. At the post-baccalaureate level, students in the elementary education 1-6 licensure program will video a literacy lesson and literacy assessment in the third literacy course. The goal of the video is for the students to reflect on the teaching skills and disposition, evaluate their discrete reading practice and that of the peers against the MA PSTs using the CAP indicators and identify areas for growth and development for the next semester. The videos will be used for faculty and peer feedback using the PST and CAP as indicators. For the Moderate disabilities program, the students will collect a literacy lesson in teaching methods course and an assessment and reflection of how it will be presented to the IEP team meeting in assessment and IEP course. The goal of the video is for the students to reflect on the teaching skills and disposition, evaluate their discrete reading practice and that of the peers against the MA PSTs using the CAP indicators and identify areas for growth and development for the next semester. All graduate students in the full-practicum semester will also video a whole class lesson in an inclusive setting. All videos of the lesson will be uploaded into the ClassForward platform for self, faculty and peer evaluation using the PSTs and CAP indicators. The goal the graduate students in the program is to see the connection between well-developed lessons and how they inform teaching practice and student engagement in inclusive settings. The students will reflect on lesson planning, delivery, and student learning outcomes as they complete that state CAP.
Goal #2 Lasell University's continues to diversify the teaching pipeline by continuing to grow the current partnerships and engaged with nine districts in MA via the Lasell's Pathways to Teacher Diversity program. The PTD will continue to recruit more diverse students into the teacher preparation program. Lasell is also maintaining data on the growth of diversity in the program since 2016 when we started the Pathways to Teacher Diversity Program. The program offers mentoring, dual enrollment, parent workshops, and scholarships for incoming education majors and mentoring and college preparation for diverse high school students going into teaching careers. The program started with four partnership districts and is not at nine districts. Because of the pandemic, the partnership with the new district came to a halt in March so the goal is to communication to each of the schools to set up online mentoring opportunities and set up on campus or virtual campus visits with the mentors as the 20-21 academic year begins. For the post-baccalaureate level, the PTD program will offer the first graduate assistantship dedicated to the program development and research. The program will also work with partners to explore diversifying the teacher pipeline by developing a cohort approach graduate program for diverse aide/para professionals in partner districts who are interested in teaching licensure programs.
Goal #3 This year Lasell University's Educator preparation program will go review by the Educator Effectiveness office. Our goal this year is to evaluate our current progress and develop three goals for continuous improvement for the next three years. Specifically, we would like to address continuous improvement in MTEL preparation for the communication and literacy test. Our goal is to have ongoing strategic meetings with the content area experts (writing and literature faculty) where we can collaborate and coordinate the faculty expertise to the subject matter knowledge skills required by the state. The outcome will be more aligned content connection between the education methods and the core curriculum for education majors.
