Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2021
Goal #1 Based on the findings in the Emmanuel College Formal Review Results, 2019 – 2020, the School of Education will create a process of identifying, monitoring and responding to PK-12 student outcomes as articulated by partners as well as annual Edwin data. Such a process will inform continuous improvement in Instruction and Partnerships.
Goal #2 Based on the findings in the Emmanuel College Formal Review Results, 2019 – 2020, the School of Education will establish a process to monitor the efficacy of individual programs: Baccalaureate Elementary, Baccalaureate Secondary and Post-Baccalaureate Elementary. Such a process will inform Continuous Improvement of all programs.
Goal #3 The School of Education will continue to refine Gateway Assessments to deepen students' Subject Matter Knowledge and strengthen their practice. Such work will inform continuous improvement in Instruction and Field-Based Experiences.

Annual Goals - 2020
Goal #1 Pre-Practicum Gateways: The School of Education will implement and assess new pre-practicum gateways in methods courses to make sure that candidates are provided with opportunities to apply learning into practice through authentic teaching experiences, supported practice, and feedback.
Goal #2 Subject Matter Knowledge (SMK): The School of Education will review and assess its change in approach to SMKs to ensure that teacher candidates move beyond a basic knowledge of the curriculum frameworks to a level of fluency with the academic standards so that teacher candidates can teach and support K-12 students in mastering content. Regular meetings with Department Chairs will ensure a continuum of content knowledge with the MA Curriculum frameworks in all required content courses.
Goal #3 Multimodal Learning: The School of Education will assist teacher candidates to be teachers of multimodal learning (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) by modeling teaching methods using both synchronous and asynchronous tools. Faculty will share best practices and techniques at Department meetings.

Annual Goals - 2019
Goal #1 The School of Education Field Office will continue to ensure that Program Supervisors and Supervising Practitioners are contributing to and effectively evaluating the readiness of candidates by attending School of Education quarterly meetings, DESE workshops and partnering with other Ed prep Programs
Goal #2 The School of Education will ensure that Field-based experiences are fully embedded in program coursework such that connections between theory and practice are explicit. Faculty will provide specific examples of how the practice is assessed.
Goal #3 The Academic Affairs Office in coordination with the School of Education will ensure that Systems/structures support collaboration within departments and across disciplines and improve candidate preparation.
