Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.
Data last updated October, 04 2023.

Annual Goals - 2021
Goal #1 In alignment with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Program Approval Guidelines (2016), our goal is to implement Program Supervisor and Supervising Practitioner surveys for the 21-22 academic year. These surveys will collect information relating to supervisor's field experiences, and will serve as an additional tool in gathering feedback related to the practicum experience. Data from these surveys will be used to inform our Continuous Improvement efforts going forward.
Goal #2 The Office of Field Placement and Practicum experiences is going to build out an internal-facing Advising website, viewable to all students enrolled in a pre-practicum or practicum. The purpose of this website will be to increase transparency and communication around the candidate field-based experience and state requirements for endorsement and licensure.
Goal #3 With the Office of Assessment and Accreditation, the Office of Field Placement and Partnerships will continue in their efforts to implement InPlace, a field placement management software. This tool was implemented to students for Spring 2021 teacher education practicum placements. Ongoing implementation efforts include launching the partner-facing side of the tool to request placements from partner schools/districts, and launching the student facing side for School Counseling practicum placements.

Annual Goals - 2020
Goal #1 In Fall 2019, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released subject matter knowledge (SMK) guidelines and identified critical areas of need for education preparation programs. All Pre-K-12 educators licensed in the state must "demonstrate the knowledge needed to support students in mastering the foundations of reading" (DESE SMK Guidelines, 2019). In order to attend to this goal, the Department of Teaching, Curriculum and Society will establish a Reading Committee to analyze all of the course syllabi that address assessment and the instruction of reading; the Committee will be charged with developing short and long terms plans for consistently and uniformly addressing reading instruction across all teacher education courses.
Goal #2 In continued response to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's mandate for educator preparation programs, the Teaching, Curriculum and Society department will review updates to the subject matter knowledge (SMK) guidelines, particularly in the content area of history, and adapt course syllabi and assessments to meet the updated regulations.
Goal #3 With the establishment of the Bilingual Education Certificate, the Office of Field Placement Office will collaborate with the newly formed faculty advisory committee to cultivate and expand partnerships with two-way immersion schools to ensure access to high-quality field experiences for teacher candidate and to establish a pipeline for bilingual supervisors.

Annual Goals - 2019
Goal #1 Over the upcoming year, the Lynch School of Education and Human Development administration team plan on revisiting extant partnerships to identify areas of strength and areas of improvement. Enrollment trends will be analyzed to identify partners best suited to meet practicum placement needs.
Goal #2 With anticipated expansion of bilingual education teacher preparation programs, the Lynch School of Education and Human Development practicum office will revisit strategies in the recruitment and training of bilingual supervisors as well as establish new partnerships with two-way immersion schools.
Goal #3 Over the upcoming year, the Teacher Education, Special Education, and Curriculum and Instruction department will review changes to the Subject Matter Knowledge regulations and adapt curriculum and instruction to meet DESE expectations.
