Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.
Data last updated October, 04 2023.

Annual Goals - 2020
Goal #1 Shifts in faculty; including the hiring of a new CTE, as well as new requirements from DESE in regard to pre-practicum guidelines and SMK have created a wonderful opportunity for our department to look closely at our licensure program and consider how best to prepare all candidates to leave our program ready to teach on day one. In the coming year we will work to more closely align the experiences of our elementary and secondary candidates; setting a side time for department discussions and collaboration and professional development for instructors of required methods courses.
Goal #2 Develop a stronger and more accesible system (when advising needs to become a remote process) for advising and monitoring the progress of licensure candidates; which will need to include some formalizing of communication with supervising practitioners and instructors, as well as more conversation and information sharing with academic advisors.
Goal #3 With input of program supervisors and supervising practicers develop more systems for providing targeted feedback to candidates during pre-practcum experiences.

Annual Goals - 2019
Goal #1 Work to align pre-practicum experiences to the new pre-practicum guidelines and to ensure that gateway assessments are consistent across baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate programs.
Goal #2 We recently demonstrated need for French, Spanish, and Mandarin licenses (grades 5-12, bacc. and post-bacc.). We will be working to get these foreign language programs approved, recruit students for the programs, connect with public school partners, and launch the foreign language programs.
Goal #3 Work to implement a series of workshops for new Supervising Practitioners and Program Supervisors using DESE's online calibration tool.

Annual Goals - 2018
Goal #1 Pilot program (a series of courses and fieldwork experiences), which will allow our candidates to earn an add-on license in moderate disabilities, which is an identified area of need in our partner districts.
Goal #2 Align English and History licensure programs to incorporate the entire fifth through twelfth grade range.
Goal #3 Work to create a more direct pipeline from the Urban Education Pathway to licensure programs at Smith.
