Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.
Data last updated October, 04 2023.

Annual Goals - 2020
Goal #1 Design and implement the use of an MTEL community group, which will be used to house resources for MTEL preparation, study guides, job opportunities, licensure requirements, etc. It will be managed in a classroom in our learning management software, Moodle, and will be accessible to all Education Students.
Goal #2 We intend to increase the number of minority teacher candidates we lead to admission and enrollment by actively recruiting and utilizing resources from the new Center for Equity in Urban Education. We will create more robust support systems and more active advising for minority candidates. Curriculum will be diversified as well to incorporate the modeling of anti-bias curriculum/materials, and to improve curriculum in a way that supports and fosters social activism and advocacy.
Goal #3 We will develop more online resources for our teacher candidates, both to make the programming more flexible for adult learners, but also to provide a model for PK-12 teachers who have had to convert to online learning during the 2020 global pandemic.

Annual Goals - 2019
Goal #1 Partnerships with Holyoke, Chicopee, and Springfield Public Schools will be formalized and fully implemented.
Goal #2 The expanded undergraduate pre-practicum experience will be piloted in fall 2019.
Goal #3 An additional MTEL prep module in Foundations of Reading will be initiated and evaluated.

Annual Goals - 2018
Goal #1 The Education Division Faculty will engage in an analysis of education courses to determine the effectiveness of current practices in supporting a candidate's initial introduction to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Subject Matter Knowledge (ie. opportunities for guided observations, mixed-reality simulations, and mock teaching embedded into coursework requirements) and develop recommendations for course work as required by ESE Guidelines for the Pre-Practicum (2018). Completion of this goal will ensure that all graduates of the licensure programs have had sufficient opportunity to build readiness for full responsibility in licensure role.
Goal #2 The Education Division Faculty will develop a set of recommendations/actions to ensure that undergraduate students in licensure programs take MTELs in a timeframe aligned to the appropriate coursework. Completion of this goal will result in an increase in the percentage of undergraduate students who take and pass the MTELs associated with their selected area of licensure (ie. Communication and Literacy MTEL, the General Curriculum Math MTEL, etc.).
Goal #3 The Education Division Faculty will work to formalize one or more partnerships with local school districts. Completion of this goal will ensure high quality pre-practicum and practicum teaching experiences for students in the initial licensure programs.
