Goal #1 |
Shady Hill will pilot and evaluate a new partnership with Boston University where 6 history/English majors interested in middle and secondary education will have the opportunity to take graduate level courses focused on the planning and teaching of history or English. |
Goal #2 |
Shady Hill's ed prep program will continue to offer its Future Teacher Institute for Men of Color while focusing on recruiting and training at least 6 of 18 potential candidates for the ed prep program to provide teachers for Somerville, Cambridge, and/or Boston public school districts. These are districts that have demonstrated need for more men of color in their public schools. |
Goal #3 |
Shady Hill's 90th year of teacher preparation is also the year in which the school will seek reaccreditation to continue to endorse in program areas currently approved. Hiring a full-time Assistant Director for Teacher Preparation should enable the program to support 18 apprentice teachers, manage admission, and facilitate five courses for Lesley University on-site. We will continue to utilize the services and expertise of our Director of Inclusion and Multicultural Practice to identify prospective applicants to the program. Our Alumni Outreach Co-ordinator will collaborate with SHS's new Director of External Affairs to set realistic achievable goals to support alums more effectively and launch a $2 million capital campaign for tuition assistance for diverse applicants. These goals are reflected in our 2015-18 strategic plan. |
