Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.
Data last updated October, 04 2023.

Annual Goals - 2019
Goal #1 Our new hire will co-coordinate the ECE/ ELM licensure programs as well as focus on Special Education and STEM course development. Our goal is to mentor our new hire regarding state regs, needs of our students, course development, partnerships in the field, the new college curriculum and her scholarship agenda.
Goal #2 We will spend the 2019-2020 year addressing the Findings identified in our formal program approval report. Although were officially approved, due to the lack of our 3 full time faculty members on campus during the school year, we have placed these on our summer 2019 retreat agenda for focused attention during the 2019-2020 year by all full time and adjunct faculty. This is particularly beneficial to our new hire who will join us for the retreat.
Goal #3 During the 2019-2020 school year, we will focus on reviewing our prepracticum requirements and the further use of on site (or video taped) observations as well as consideration of a gateway assessment.

Annual Goals - 2018
Goal #1 We are submitting a proposal recommending the hiring of 3 full time faculty members to replaced anticipated retirements by 3 education faculty members. Our goals for these new positions include a focus on special education, teaching English learners, STEM, literacy and increased supervised fieldwork opportunities for our candidates.
Goal #2 We plan to develop an 'at risk' protocol for identifying and supporting students who are struggling in the licensure programs.
Goal #3 We will focus on social emotional learning and behavior management strategies to better prepare candidates for the practicum.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 We are piloting a new policy of requiring candidates to pass the MTEL Communication and Literacy and the ECE/ ELM subject matter tests before entering the senior year curriculum courses. Though this has been what we have strongly advised in the past, we have found that some students procrastinate, thus creating a dilemma for them and us. We realize there will always be extenuating circumstances, but we are going to experiment with implementing a more rigorous timeline.
Goal #2 We plan to improve coordination between departmental faculty, teaching foundation level courses, the center for community engagement on our campus and the Norton tutoring programs.
Goal #3 We will complete all required submissions for the MA DESE formal review of all our licensure programs (to be held Feb. 2018).
