Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.
Data last updated October, 04 2023.

Annual Goals - 2018
Goal #1 We will increase enrollment in the Aspiring Principals Program of the Urban Principals Development Institute.
Goal #2 We will restore the Newly Appointed Principals Program of the Urban Principals Development Institute, after a year's hiatus.
Goal #3 We will continue to expand our use of blended learning to complement our face-to-face meetings and provide new, additional opportunities for engagement in our curriculum. We plan on introducing podcasts to the next cohort to more deeply impact their understanding of course material.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 We are forming the Western Massachusetts Alliance for Principal Development to support prospective licensure candidates in this region of the Commonwealth.
Goal #2 We will expand our use of the blended learning component of or program to complement our face-to-face meetings and infuse new engagement opportunities into our curriculum.
Goal #3 We will survey the supervision practitioners and program supervisors at the end of the program to identify strengths and challenges.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Our licensure candidates resonated to one of the new pre-readings for the Summer Intensive - Debby Irvings's "Waking up White." We will be adding Ta-Nehisi Coates's "Between the World and Me" as well this year in hopes that both books will take us to an even deeper level of reflection and conversation on the issue of race and its bearing on our practice. Writing: The MA-PAL is increasingly proving its worth as an effective complement to our instructional program. Having seen first hand the enormous deficiencies in the writing abilities of our licensure candidates, we are far more rigorous in our review of participants' written assignments in our program, providing almost intensive 1:1 tutorials around student work. It is having an impact.
Goal #2 We will exert more quality control on the Springfield district's designation of mentor principals for internships.
Goal #3 We are welcoming three participants in our program from the Holyoke Public Schools and are assisting the professional development director in grant writing to secure the necessary funds.
