Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 Increase enrollment across all educator preparation programs, and continue developing new programs that meet demonstrated need across the Commonwealth. We are currently developing a new program in Autism that would lead to Autism Endorsement.
Goal #2 Wheelock recently established a graduate advisory board and administered a graduate student satisfaction survey to begin the process of strengthening resources and services for candidates in post-baccalaureate programs, with the goal of increasing enrollment, and improving candidate satisfaction and their readiness to teach.
Goal #3 Continue to develop new partnerships and strengthen existing partnerships with school districts and child care providers; increase effective communication with outside communities and organizations to assist with program effectiveness and further strengthen our partnerships.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Evaluate and modify advising and preparation for MTELs. Increase and improve offerings for MTEL preparation sessions to increase pass rates. Identify common points in respective program to advise candidates on when to take MTELs.
Goal #2 Implement CAP for all initial licensure program beyond pilot period; effectively train program supervisors and supervising practitioners in CAP; implement new PSTs into programs and coursework; review and update courses as needed to increase program effectiveness.
Goal #3 Increase enrollment and increase number of completers in high need areas that are traditionally a strength at Wheelock: Moderate Disabilities, Early Childhood, and Reading through expanding partnerships with districts, communicating more effectively with outside communities and organizations, and improving program effectiveness.

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 MTEL preparation resources and advising has been completely revamped resulting in increased MTEL pass rates across all programs. We continue to collect data to ensure MTEL preparation resources are benefiting candidates.
Goal #2 CAP has been completely implemented across all educator preparation programs, and program supervisors and supervising practitioners have been trained in the new CAP process. The new professional standards for teachers have been incorporated into all applicable coursework.
Goal #3 We continue to work to increase enrollment across all educator preparation programs, and we continue to develop new partnerships and strengthen existing partnerships with school districts. Our Field Education practicum placement office is at full staff capacity and this will aid our efforts to strengthen partnerships with districts.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Re-evaluate and modify as needed the current MTEL advising and preparation system for Wheelock students. It is the intention of the Education Division to provide additional advising, test taking and content preparation support for Wheelock students, alumni and partner school teachers who prepare to take and pass the state licensure (MTEL) exams that are required for the educator preparation programs offered at Wheelock. Outcomes of this goal include a reduction in number of teacher candidates who fail and must repeat a required exam in order to move forward in or complete their program. By vote of the full Wheelock Faculty, the passing scores on all required MTEL exams are a program requirement, as part of an effort to assure that graduates are employment ready and that they have the knowledge and skills to teach all students effectively.
Goal #2 Based on work completed in the past year by the educator preparation departments and the Division, Wheelock Ed Prep faculty will complete the review and revision of all remaining key assessments, and the alignment of the revised assessments with revised state and national standards, including MA PST. This includes education baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate and the professional certificate programs offered by Wheelock College.
Goal #3 The Education Division and school partners will continue to evaluate and determine how to renew and strengthen collaborations with partner schools in the urban districts surrounding Wheelock College, and for the mutual benefit of the schools and the college and education unit.

Goal #1 Reevaluation of MTEL advising complete and work underway to modify advising and preparation for MTELs.
Goal #2 Review of key assessments ongoing, in regards to new PSTs and the CAP.
Goal #3 Education Division continues to review and strengthen partnerships with school districts.
