Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 The unit will have developed the next unit-wide assessment.
Goal #2 Continue work on setting a structure to ensure the sustained involvement of P12 partners in the design, implementation and assessment of field based experiences and evaluation of the unit's programs.
Goal #3 The unit wide training for supervising practitioners and program supervisors that impacts candidate effectiveness will be refined and implemented and an evaluation tool to assess impact will be designed.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 All teacher preparation programs across the unit will have fully implemented the new Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP).
Goal #2 A structure will be in place to ensure the involvement of P12 partners in the design, implementation and assessment of field based experiences and evaluation of the unit's programs.
Goal #3 Unit wide training for supervising practitioners and program supervisors that impacts candidate effectiveness will be piloted, analyzed and revised for implementation in 2016-2017.

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Goal Met - all teacher preparation programs have implemented the new Candidate Assessment of Performance.
Goal #2 We identified "target" partners, developed criteria to develop and assess partnerships sites and piloted it with Springfield High School of Science and Technology. This site was also developed as a site for our immersion program and collaborated to develop criteria for choosing school sites for placements and a way to evaluate potential supervising practitioners and schools. A District task force was initiated with Holyoke Public Schools in order to strategize the development of a district wide collaborative partnership including teacher preparation and research.
Goal #3 The field experience specialist worked with a group of teachers to design trainings for university supervisors and program supervisors. The trainings were implemented by the field experience specialist to ensure consistency. An evaluation tool is in process to ensure the efficacy of the trainings.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 The teacher preparation programs will review curriculum, courses, assessments and field and clinical experiences and develop and implement action plans for incorporating the new state standards and indicators for teacher preparation.
Goal #2 The unit will pilot the new Massachusetts teacher Performance Assessment with a subset of candidates in fall and spring semesters.
Goal #3 Continue progress toward a deeper involvement of the P12 community in review and continuous improvement of the assessment system.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 The teacher preparation programs reviewed curriculum, courses, assessments and field and clinical experiences and implemented action plans for incorporating the new state professional standards for teachers.
Goal #2 The Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education programs completed the pilot of the new Massachusetts Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP).
Goal #3 The Educator Licensure Advisor Council (ELAC) is in the process of forming a Partnerships sub-committee which will focus on the development of a strategic plan with short and long term goals; and make data-based recommendations regarding which schools and districts will be targeted for the development of new collaborative partnerships and which will be targeted for the enhancement/revision of current partnership agreements. The Field Experience Specialist and the Assistant Dean for P12 Educator Preparation will facilitate the implementation of the plan.
