Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 Convene stakeholder and practicum advisory committees 3-4 times. Provide a forum for discussion about: 1. What's working, what's not; 2. Needs of various districts/schools, specific teaching field; 3. Brainstorm possible changes/additions to strengthen SC educator preparation programs; 4. Ask the question, "Are our teacher/counselor candidates who successfully complete our programs ready to teach/counsel day one?"
Goal #2 Take data from all surveys and the final (summative) CAP and analyze. Convene EPC and EPLC to identify trends in the data and determine what should be celebrated, strengthened, or substantially changed.
Goal #3 Meet 2-3 times with admissions, enrollment management personnel, and individuals in departments who are leading recruitment efforts to review data. Detail all recruitment efforts being made for undergraduate and graduate programs, especially efforts to increase the number of students of color. Explain/describe the successes, challenges and identify additional strategies.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Full implementation of 2014 Professional Standards for Teachers (PST). All coursework and field-based experiences revised and delivered based on changes made.
Goal #2 Full implementation of the new Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) for all of our teacher candidates enrolled in an official practicum.
Goal #3 In preparation for state program approval visit in 2017-2018, complete all required program approval documents. Make changes/adjustments as appropriate.

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Revisions to the course objectives for all PEHE and EDUC required courses and field-based experiences were made during the 2015-2016 academic year to ensure proper coverage of the PSTs. The PST matrices were completed in 2016 showing that there is appropriate coverage of all PSTs in required teacher preparation coursework. Beginning the Fall of 2016, all coursework and field-based experiences were delivered based on all of the revisions to the course objectives.
Goal #2 Director of Educator Preparation provided CAP training/workshops to candidates and all supervisors (supervising practitioners and program supervisors) prior to the start-up date for the various practicum experiences provided to teacher candidates at Springfield College. In addition, the Director provided one on one support for all supervisors as needed/requested. In addition the Director provided ongoing support to teacher candidates through the required seminars. Full implementation was achieved; all teacher candidates enrolled in an official practicum and their supervisors followed the CAP guidelines as adapted by Springfield College in our practicum handbook.
Goal #3 Matrices have all been completed and are being reviewed; drafts of all domain worksheets have been completed; worksheets are being edited and will be completed and finalized over the summer. As a result of this review, some curricular changes have been made and more outreach to stakeholders has occurred.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 An action plan for aligning the new Professional Standards for Teachers with the coursework required for each program will be developed and carried out over the next year.
Goal #2 The Educator Preparation Council diversity subcommittee will work to implement one or more strategies identified.
Goal #3 Springfield College will continue to work with Springfield Public Schools to recruit and retain teachers of record with an initial license in the shortage areas of mathematics, science and special education.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 A PST implementation plan was developed in June/July 2015. The plan was carried out during the 2015-2016 academic year. Major milestones detailed in the plan across the three focus areas, instruction, field-based experiences and stakeholder engagement were achieved.
Goal #2 The Educator Preparation Council diversity subcommittee supported the work of the college as a whole as a new VP for Inclusion and Community Engagement was hired. He established a variety of task forces that met and determined strategic goals for the future around a number of diversity initiatives ranging from improving the campus culture and academic programs to the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty and students.
Goal #3 Springfield College continued to work with Springfield Public Schools to recruit and retain teachers of record in shortage areas. Twenty new recruits to this working teacher initial licensure program ("S-Cubed") are in the following shortage areas: 8 moderate disabilities, 7 science and 5 mathematics teachers. Retention in SPS of program completers from our working teacher program is very high.
