Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 We transitioned from an add-on license program to a BFA in Art Education. With this transition comes opportunities to refine our goals and strengthen our program. We continue to work toward improving our Art Education program.
Goal #2 We will work toward supporting the academic needs of our student body. We have focused on student advising this year and will continue to develop the support systems for our diverse learners, including faculty development and communication.
Goal #3 With a larger cohort coming into our program we need to add more supervising practitioners and field sites to our network on the North Shore. We aim to expand our partnerships with local supervising practitioners, schools and districts.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Continue to focus on developing sufficient capacity to support and sustain effective ad prep programs by having the equivalent of full time staff member.
Goal #2 Work on the implementation of the new CAP system in the fall of 2016 with our practicum students. Continue outreach to teachers and sites in our area for field placements, and for speakers on special topics in our program,
Goal #3 Recruit more students to the art education program. Numerous have dropped since it switched to a BFA in art Education. *

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 We continue to work toward our goal of hiring a full-time faculty member/ program director. Our program numbers have grown significantly, and we hope to do that in the near future. We have maintained consistency with our three adjunct faculty members.
Goal #2 We have successfully implemented the new CAP system. Supervising practitioners and faculty are trained and all students use the CAP during Practicum. The PSTs are integrated with all courses from introductory level to Practicum Seminar.
Goal #3 Interest in our program continues to grow, and our incoming cohort is large. We will continue to work towards sustaining this growth.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Redesign of courses as per new DESE initiatives. Goal #1 is to deconstruct the PSTs and restructure presentation of course content inviting more district art teachers and advocate participants for suggestions
Goal #2 Expand the governance of the program to include at least one staff member and in so doing, ensuring continuity when change in faculty happens. Secure adjunct hiring for retention and continuity.
Goal #3 Explore how to expand and consolidate the network of practitioners who are willing to serve as mentors for pre-practicum and practicum experiences as well as specialists of connected domains for presentations as guest speakers.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 We have begun the process of redesigning courses for the new DESE initiatives. We have added material to the syllabi and introduced the new CAP to students in pre-practicum.
Goal #2 We are beginning to make progress on governance in the program. While there is are 2 new staff members, neither one is full time.
Goal #3 We have successfully tired two adjuncts for continuity purposes. One adjunct (also an alum) will continue to teach to teach sophomore level courses and develop a sense of stability.
