Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 HC will offer two methods courses in F17: STEM and Humanities. The Director of the TEP will work to aligning Methods courses to new PSTs. She will review syllabi provided by both STEM and Humanities adjunct professors, and compare them to syllabi for similar courses offered at other SOs. This way we can ensure that TCS are receiving instruction in theory and PSTs not just best practices.
Goal #2 The program will continue to work on sustaining and expanding our partnerships with the Worcester Public Schools and our network of SPs and PSs to fulfill the needs of our Holy Cross TEP students.
Goal #3 The TEP plans to expand recruiting to all departments on campus with development of highlights video that can be shown at Open Houses, Academic Fairs, New Student Orientations, and in Academic classes. By creating a video, prospective TCs will have a better understanding of what the TEP is and how it can prepare them for employment upon graduation.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 The program will design and deliver face-to-face training sessions and written resources to support all supervising practitioners and program supervisors in the CAP pilot. Feedback collected at the end of session(s) and at the end of the practicum semester will indicate the effectiveness of the training in supporting implementation of CAP and will also indicate areas for improvement.
Goal #2 At the end of the Spring 2016 semester, all survey data will be summarized, analyzed, and shared with internal and external stakeholders in order to identify strengths and areas of need.
Goal #3 Two content-specific methods coursework will be offered: one that focuses on the humanities and one that focuses on STEM. Upon completion of the program, at least 75% of candidates will indicate that they felt prepared for their full practicum as a result of the methods course and at least 90% will indicate that they felt somewhat prepared.

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 The program held 2 face-to-face meetings (December 2016 & January 2017) with all stakeholders in order to support in the implementation of CAP. We provided detailed instructions and PPT slides with explanations of each of the various aspects of the CAP process. HC also joined the ESE's CAP Cohort that met throughout the year both face-to-face and via webinars and included the Director of TEP, a PS, an SP, and a TC. In addition, the Director and Field Placement Coordinator held 1-1 Meetings in the schools. Finally, the Director engaged in weekly communication via email and phone to check in with Program Supervisors and Supervising Practitioners regarding upcoming deadlines, questions, and responsibilities.
Goal #2 The Teacher Ed Program Director and Field Placement Coordinator analyzed data in June 2016. Based on the information gathered, the TEP Director and FPC determined that the program needed to include more Special Education instruction, to develop more strategies for recruitment of diverse candidates, and to align PSTs and methods courses offered by adjunct professors.
Goal #3 We were only able to offer one methods course focused on humanities and foreign language. 100% of Teacher Education Program students enrolled in this course indicated that they were prepared for their full practicum as a result of the methods course.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 The Teacher Education Program will improve hiring pipelines with local high-need districts and schools.
Goal #2 The Teacher Education Program will establish structures to better support supervising practitioners and program supervisors in their roles.
Goal #3 The Teacher Education Program will align each of its programs to the new Professional Standards for Teacher with input from faculty, partners, and candidates.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 We secured an early hiring timeline for STEM candidates with the Human Resources office for the Worcester Public Schools. We also set up networking opportunities with the Lawrence Public Schools.
Goal #2 We formalized the hiring process for Program Supervisors (PS), in collaboration with Human Resources at Holy Cross. We developed an ad and used the college's hiring platform to review applications. We also established an interview protocol and revised the contracts. A training for the PS cohort was developed and networking opportunities within the cohort were provided. We developed and revised training for all teams of Program Supervisors and Supervising Practitioners at the start of the semester. A separate training was designed for co-teaching teams. This work is not done; the training needs to be adapted to align to the new CAP cycle and process.
Goal #3 Several concrete steps indicate progress toward this goal. Much of the work was guided by participation in and engagement with the PST Alignment Working Group during Spring 2015, attended by the TEP Director and the Field Placement Coordinator. The TEP Director facilitated a department meeting about the new standards, gathered input from partners, and submitted a PST Implementation Plan in July 2015. We need to gather data from alumni.
