Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2017
Goal #1 In 2015- 2017, we have deepened our connections with our placement sites by offering professional development sessions for Supervising Practitioners, and by working with district personnel to better understand and address their needs. In 2017-18 we will continue these efforts to strengthen and formalize our relationships with partner schools and districts.
Goal #2 We will document how we are meeting the all of the Program Approval Criteria as part of our program review. We will use this opportunity to continue to strengthen our use of survey and other data collected by the program and by the state.
Goal #3 In 2015-17, we have already been working to align our courses vertically and horizontally attending to the scope and sequence. In 2017-18, we will continue this work with the goal of creating even clearer through-lines in the course sequence.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Implement new pro-seminar for teacher education programs.
Goal #2 Make revisions to the Teacher Leadership Program and welcome second cohort.
Goal #3 Implement the revised CAP standards.

Progress Toward Goals - 2016
Goal #1 The Teacher Education Proseminar, held during the fall semester pre-practicum, brought together elementary and secondary, undergraduate and graduate Interns to further develop their ability to: engage in reflective practice, develop an inquiry stance, enter a professional culture, and attend to classroom culture and diverse learning needs. Proseminar was created in response to expressed desire for: more support for professional socialization, increased interactions between cohorts, earlier exposure to special education materials, increased structure for undergraduates in the pre-practicum. Survey results suggested that the Proseminar addressed the perceived needs and learning goals. Recommendations for 2017-18 included adjusting the timing of the seminar to be earlier in the day. Proseminar was followed in spring semester by Reflective Seminar during the full practicum and includes analysis of: cases, dilemmas, and journal entries from interns' daily teaching as well as videos of their teaching.
Goal #2 In addition to clarifying the coaches' roles and responsibilities, the program faculty clarified the framework used to identify teacher leadership professional goals and assess learning and progress during the school year. The framework is based on the program's learning outcomes: 1) developing an identity and practice as a teacher leader; 2) planning teacher learning opportunities aligned with school improvement goals and principles of effective professional development; 3) facilitating teacher learning to improve student learning; and 4) using organizational principles and data to understand how the school "works" and to advocate for continuous improvement.
Goal #3 We completed the 2015-16 CAP pilot with 100% of our program completers. In 2016-17, we have integrated CAP into our course assignments and learning. For example, Interns' Teacher Research questions often connect to their SMART goals; their data analysis overlaps with their reflections and self-assessments. Secondary educators will present evidence and artifacts of their CAP progress in a formal presentation during their course final exam. The artifacts and videos from CAP observations and classroom practice serve as fodder for critical friends conversations in courses. This year, we designated a CAP manager to address the archiving and organization of the paperwork and field questions from Interns, Program Supervisors, and Supervising Practitioners. We provided two training sessions, created two screencasts, and built an online toolkit and organizational structure.
