Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Wheaton College Education Department will formally expand our PreK-12 Partnership Advisory Group beyond the articulation agreement with the Norton Schools, in addition to inviting partners to attend Education Advisory Group meetings when appropriate.
Goal #2 Instructors will embed CAP Essential Elements into curriculum/ prepracticum courses. We will further align instruction regarding PSTs and CAP by adding more hands-on pedagogical instruction to foundations level courses (ex.,EDU 250) and by revising the prepracticum observation assignment.
Goal #3 We will enhance our mentor training for program supervisors as well as supervising practitioners. We have planned a summer meeting for program supervisors to increase our support.

Goal #1 Expand range of diverse fieldwork opportunities
Goal #2 Align coursework with new professional teaching standards and new PPA
Goal #3 Implement grant funded ipad program with candidates

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Students were offered the opportunity to participate in a Boston January urban internship. 1 teacher candidate was placed in Boston for the practicum. Several students completed prepracticum fieldwork at Head Start. Planning conversations occurred with an alum working NYC schools and with colleagues on Education Advisory group.
Goal #2 Our course catalog and syllabi include the new professional standards for teaching. Catalog and relevant syllabi updated with new professional standards for teachers. Professional Standards for Teachers were regularly addressed in curriculum classes and methods seminar. All teacher candidates were mentored regarding CAP as well as all Supervising Practitioners and Program Supervisors.
Goal #3 All Program Coordinators received ipads which were available for data collection and sharing with teaching candidates. Teaching with Technology workshops were offered to students in curriculum courses and during student teaching. Notebook software for Smartboard planning was added to library computers.

Progress Toward Goals - 2014
Goal #1 We hosted 800 middle schoolers for a STEM EXPO from 3 local communities. We piloted a Saturday course re teaching STE
Goal #2 We created a formal articulation agreement with the Norton schools. We invited public school representatives to serve on our Education Advisory group.
Goal #3 Local educators conducted technology workshops for our students
