Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Continue to focus on developing sufficient capacity to support and sustain effective ad prep programs by having the equivalent of full time staff member.
Goal #2 Work on the implementation of the new CAP system in the fall of 2016 with our practicum students. Continue outreach to teachers and sites in our area for field placements, and for speakers on special topics in our program,
Goal #3 Recruit more students to the art education program. Numerous have dropped since it switched to a BFA in art Education. *

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Redesign of courses as per new DESE initiatives. Goal #1 is to deconstruct the PSTs and restructure presentation of course content inviting more district art teachers and advocate participants for suggestions
Goal #2 Expand the governance of the program to include at least one staff member and in so doing, ensuring continuity when change in faculty happens. Secure adjunct hiring for retention and continuity.
Goal #3 Explore how to expand and consolidate the network of practitioners who are willing to serve as mentors for pre-practicum and practicum experiences as well as specialists of connected domains for presentations as guest speakers.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 We have begun the process of redesigning courses for the new DESE initiatives. We have added material to the syllabi and introduced the new CAP to students in pre-practicum.
Goal #2 We are beginning to make progress on governance in the program. While there is are 2 new staff members, neither one is full time.
Goal #3 We have successfully tired two adjuncts for continuity purposes. One adjunct (also an alum) will continue to teach to teach sophomore level courses and develop a sense of stability.

Annual Goals - 2014
Goal #1 Implementation of the new BFA in Art Education concentration that includes rethinking admission procedures and requirements. This implementation includes the phasing out the 'integrated' system until cohort of 2017.
Goal #2 Expansion of the Art Ed program. The College employs more Admission counselors than before reaching out to greater territories. We intend to take advantage of this to advertise the new BFA in Art Education. We will also market using the web, print advertisement and overall increase the visibility of the program.
Goal #3 Continued development and refinement of course content addressing ELL needs. Reading, discussion, exercises and lectures on the subject have been incorporated to three courses. We are also adding Common Core content to two Junior and Senior level courses. The Special Education course will augment the number of hours students do in pre-practicum through fieldwork requirement.

Progress Toward Goals - 2014
Goal #1 The first cohort enrolling solely in Art Education as a concentration has attracted more students than we expected. I am still working in finding ways to include registration to MTELs 01 as requirement for entry in to the program.
Goal #2 A few students have transferred from other colleges and concentrations just to join the Art Education program but I am not sure that this is the product of Admission services alone, but more word of mouth. We are now featuring Art Education as separate concentration in the publicity material for the first year. Students choose their concentration at the end of the second year.
Goal #3 The new course for students with Special Needs is very successful and has enrolled students who are not even from the program but are attracted to the content. The course has been renamed teaching students with Disabilities on the request of the professor who is in charge of teaching it as it reflects better the legal aspects that form the roots of the course's importance.
