Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 Review undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs to determine appropriate expansion as well as consolidation.
Goal #2 Broaden and expand opportunities for pre-practicum candidates that meet the needs of candidates, the institution, and PK-12 districts/school partners.
Goal #3 Recruit, support, and retain diverse candidates.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Incorporate the new PSTs into all of our educator preparation programs.
Goal #2 Incorporate the new SMKs, when released, into all of our educator preparation programs.
Goal #3 Align our key assessments to the new PSTs and SMKs and train all faculty on the new forms, processes, and procedures that will be created.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 The new Professional Standards for Teachers (PSTs) were incorporated into all of our undergraduate teacher preparation programs, and they are being incorporated into all of our graduate teacher preparation programs.
Goal #2 The new Subject Matter Knowledge Requirements were released; however, they have not been approved yet.
Goal #3 All Education faculty were trained on the new PSTs, and the new PSTs were incorporated into our key assessments for all undergraduate teacher preparation programs. The new PSTs were incorporated into our key assessments for many of our graduate teacher preparation programs and will be incorporated in all graduate teacher preparation programs by June 15th. As stated above, the new Subject Matter Knowledge Requirements were released but not approved.

Annual Goals - 2014
Goal #1 Increase passage rates for Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) content tests.
Goal #2 Continue to develop student, faculty and constituent knowledge of effective instruction of English language learners.
Goal #3 Deepen the involvement of key Extended Campus partners in Unit data collection and analysis.

Progress Toward Goals - 2014
Goal #1 We continued to offer MTEL workshops for Foundations of Reading, General Curriculum subtests, and Early Childhood Test free of charge to matriculated students. In addition to Education courses, several key LA&S course objectives were aligned to MTEL objectives. On the Early Childhood test, we have decreased the gap between the average pass rates of our students and the state average pass rate from 13% to 7%. On the Foundations of Reading, our average pass rate is 5% lower than the state average pass rate. The other content MTEL average pass rates for our students, in all cases, decreased. We continue to monitor these patterns and look for ways to address the needs of students in order to improve our average pass rates.
Goal #2 We installed the SEI course across all initial license programs on campus and with extended campus partners. Our TESEL grant continues to provide training and professional development for faculty and constituents in best practices for high quality classrooms with diverse learners.
Goal #3 Extended campus partners attend Unit Meetings where collected data is reviewed and analyzed. Program chairs meet with partners to discuss and plan for program needs.
