Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2016
Goal #1 The program will design and deliver face-to-face training sessions and written resources to support all supervising practitioners and program supervisors in the CAP pilot. Feedback collected at the end of session(s) and at the end of the practicum semester will indicate the effectiveness of the training in supporting implementation of CAP and will also indicate areas for improvement.
Goal #2 At the end of the Spring 2016 semester, all survey data will be summarized, analyzed, and shared with internal and external stakeholders in order to identify strengths and areas of need.
Goal #3 Two content-specific methods coursework will be offered: one that focuses on the humanities and one that focuses on STEM. Upon completion of the program, at least 75% of candidates will indicate that they felt prepared for their full practicum as a result of the methods course and at least 90% will indicate that they felt somewhat prepared.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 The Teacher Education Program will improve hiring pipelines with local high-need districts and schools.
Goal #2 The Teacher Education Program will establish structures to better support supervising practitioners and program supervisors in their roles.
Goal #3 The Teacher Education Program will align each of its programs to the new Professional Standards for Teacher with input from faculty, partners, and candidates.

Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Goal #1 We secured an early hiring timeline for STEM candidates with the Human Resources office for the Worcester Public Schools. We also set up networking opportunities with the Lawrence Public Schools.
Goal #2 We formalized the hiring process for Program Supervisors (PS), in collaboration with Human Resources at Holy Cross. We developed an ad and used the college's hiring platform to review applications. We also established an interview protocol and revised the contracts. A training for the PS cohort was developed and networking opportunities within the cohort were provided. We developed and revised training for all teams of Program Supervisors and Supervising Practitioners at the start of the semester. A separate training was designed for co-teaching teams. This work is not done; the training needs to be adapted to align to the new CAP cycle and process.
Goal #3 Several concrete steps indicate progress toward this goal. Much of the work was guided by participation in and engagement with the PST Alignment Working Group during Spring 2015, attended by the TEP Director and the Field Placement Coordinator. The TEP Director facilitated a department meeting about the new standards, gathered input from partners, and submitted a PST Implementation Plan in July 2015. We need to gather data from alumni.

Annual Goals - 2014
Goal #1 By August 2014, there will be an increase in racial and ethnic diversity in the Teacher Education Program.
Goal #2 During the 2013-2014 academic year, the Teacher Education Program will improve the way it tracks outcomes for its graduates and will use the data to inform next steps.
Goal #3 During the 2013-2014 academic year, students in the Teacher Education Program will be prepared to meet the needs of English Language Learners in their classrooms.

Progress Toward Goals - 2014
Goal #1 During the 2013-2014 academic year, 19 students were accepted into the program. Of those 29, 78 percent were white, 16 percent were Hispanic/Latino of any race, 5 percent were two or more races, and 5 percent chose not to disclose. The racial and ethnic diversity in the program is increasing, albeit gradually, and more focused recruitment of diverse candidates will continue.
Goal #2 During the 2013-2014 academic year, the Teacher Education Program hired an intern to design and administer a survey to all TEP alumni (Classes of 1997-2013.) In addition, an alumni database was created to update information and enable us to contact alumni in more targeted ways.
Goal #3 A new course, 'English Language Learners,' was developed, approved by the state, and approved by curriculum committee. As of July 2014, all TEP students are required to take that course.
