Educator preparation program improvement goals from the prior year
Goal #1
To develop skills in data analysis, decision making, consensus building, cultural proficiency, and organizational management in UPDP participants.
Goal #2
To provide candidates for licensure with formative experiences that equip them with the insights, ideas, and actions that will dramatically improve their effectiveness as school leaders.
Goal #3
To provide solid pre-service training to the mentor principals who supervise administrative interns.
Progress Toward Goals - 2015
Progress made toward prior program year goals
Goal #1
The Urban Principal Development Institute focuses on the formation of aspiring principals as well as and the orientation and year-long support of newly appointed principals. The aspirings need to develop the skills articulated in our first goal - data analysis, decision making, consensus building, cultural proficiency, instructional supervision, staff evaluation, and management. The newly appointees need a protected forum to consider the application of these skills as they plan and execute an effective entry into a leadership position. While contextual details will vary, we are constantly honing and refining the instructional vehicles for skill development in these areas.
Goal #2
We have developed additional scenarios, simulations and role plays to support rich problem based learning experiences.
Goal #3
Mentor principals received a full-day training session on June 14, 2015. This event was conducted by Ilene Friedman, Vice President of NYC Leadership Academy, and was funded with monies remaining from the original ESE grant for the establishment of the Turnaround Leadership Academy, the forerunner of the Urban Principals Development Institute.
