Annual Goals - 2015 |
|
Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
Goal #1 |
We are going focus more on the MTEL in the Reflective Teaching course. As part of the course, students will be required to take a minimum of one section of the test. |
Goal #2 |
Due to the timing of courses, and full-time student teaching during the final semester of senior year, elementary education students cannot participate in the Honors Program. This year, we are modifying the sequence of courses in the Honors Program and opening it to elementary education students. |
Goal #3 |
Currently, the entire faculty voted to redesign the 4-year program of study for all HC students so that it is more consistent, addresses the needs of students, builds on pre-existing skills, and provides a solid foundation for all students in the college, regardless of major. We are implementing the redesigned program in September, 2015. |
Annual Goals - 2014 |

Goal #1 |
We are preparing for a NEASC follow-up visit and therefore, responding to questions about the program, collating data, and writing report. We hope to use the data we gather to inform the relationship between the elem ed program, the general core courses, and the other majors at the college. |
Goal #2 |
We are introducing a new elective course: Young Adult Literature. We want to expand the skill-set of students so that they can be introduced to strategies for teaching with more advanced literary works. |
Goal #3 |
We are working on finalizing a video highlighting the elem ed program. It will be the first department to be highlighted on the college's redesigned website. We hope it will attract interested students. |
Progress Toward Goals - 2014 |
|
Progress made toward prior program year goals |
Goal #1 |
We reviewed the gen ed courses and their relationships to the majors that exist at HC. The learning outcomes are more cohesive and threaded in ways that provide a stronger foundation for all students. |

The Young Adult course is a successful addition to the program and to the overall college. Students in the elem ed program, and students interested in a minor in elem ed benefit from an additional elective course and students who are interested in pursuing a minor in elem ed, benefit from a course addressing literature and literacy practices. |
