Annual Goals

This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Annual Goals - 2015
Goal #1 Align all course work with the Professional Standards for Teachers by defining the pedagogical and other professional knowledge skills required for preserve teachers.
Goal #2 Continue to expand and develop strong partnerships with neighborhood schools to build on the resources though which teacher candidates are developing from pre-practicum students to licensed teacher.
Goal #3 Review all Education courses to assure that courses meet the needs of DESE as outline in Section 7.08 of 603 CMR 7.00 Regulations for Educator Licensure and Preparation Program Approval

Annual Goals - 2014
Goal #1 Develop a scope and sequence of field experiences and core assignments for 2000, 3000 and 4000-level pedagogical coursework
Goal #2 Identify criteria and process for the selection of clinical supervisors. Implement a system to provide on-going mentoring for clinical supervisors
Goal #3 Develop partnerships with neighborhood schools which build on the resources and expertise of participating partners and through which teacher candidates develop from pre practicum student to licensed teacher

Progress Toward Goals - 2014
Goal #1 The Coordinator of Field Experiences developed a score and sequence for field experiences with specific assignments for 2000, 3000, 4000 level courses. A pre-practicum coordinator was hired to assist in doing onsite visits for pre-practicum assignments.
Goal #2 Ongoing meetings with college supervisors and meetings to review the pre-practicum and practicum handbooks. Three meetings per semester are held to review criteria and processes in onsite supervision. Additional supervisors were hired based on clinical supervising experiences.
Goal #3 A newly form Partnership Advisory Council (PAC) was formed. The Chair and Field Placement visited schools to create field experiences based on the new Professional Standards for Teachers.

Annual Goals - 2013
Goal #1 Revise Education Department mission statement.
Goal #2 Revise departmental Learning Goals to frame and guide curriculum development.
Goal #3 Introduce a system to gather data from course instructors and field supervisors on the professional qualities and disposition of students seeking licensure in elementary and secondary teaching.

Progress Toward Goals - 2013
Goal #1 Mission Statement developed and publicized.
Goal #2 Departmental Learning Goals developed and published on course syllabi, program handbooks and academic catalog
Goal #3 A Professional Disposition Qualities Rating Form [PDQ] has been developed and implemented in 2000-level and 3000-level education pedagogical coursework. Teacher candidates complete the form to promote self-assessment of their suitability for the field. Course instructors and field supervisors also complete PDQs. PDQs become a part of candidate file. Data gathered is used as a part of teacher candidate evaluation process
