Annual Goals - 2021
Goal #1 Upon reflection of the TEP Scope and Sequence, it became clear that the Teacher Candidates were not receiving enough instruction in literacy and digital literacy (as described in the Cross-Cutting Matrix. Therefore, the Education Department plans to partner with the faculty in the Writing Center in order to offer additional coursework in these areas for students of all disciplines - and not just those in English. This will require frequent communication between the Director of the Teacher Education Program and the professor of these new courses to ensure they are covering all the necessary material and state standards.
Goal #2 Due to the delay in our tenure track hire because of Covid budgetary restrictions, we will undergo this search in the next academic year. Our job description will emphasize the need for diversity within our department in order to inspire and engage students of color and Latinx students to join the program.
Goal #3 The professors and instructors of our Education courses - specifically the Pre-Practicum and Practicum Seminars, EL course, and Methods of Teaching course - will work to incorporate anti-racist teaching practices and provide opportunities for students to analyze curricula with an anti-racist lens, develop anti-racist lesson/unit plans, and create their own professional action plan to combat systemic racism in the US school system. The Anti-Racist Guidebook as well as a partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will serve as an invaluable resource as we implement these practices within our courses.
