Annual Goals
This report lists the annual improvement goals reported to ESE in the educator preparation program provider’s state annual report. Providers may report up to three goals for the upcoming year and are asked to report on progress made toward the prior year’s goals. Annual goals are reported in May of the academic year listed.

Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
| Goal #1 |
Establish the Teacher Preparation Program at WPI as a minor program of study. (Minor in STEM Education-Teaching) |
| Goal #2 |
Design the scope for a new course (EDU 3300- Supporting Diverse Learners in STEM Education) with the input from a think tank of experts whose backgrounds include experience in meeting the needs of disabled students in inclusive settings, curriculum modification and accommodation, and trauma-informed practices. Propose this course to university governance and pilot the course as part of the Teacher Preparation Program of study in the 2025-2026 academic year. |

Increase visibility and recruiting efforts of diverse teacher candidates by presenting the TPP program in all first-year Physics labs (required of all students at WPI) to reach the broadest population and representation. |

| Goal #1 |
Refine the focus of pre-practicum coursework (based on the '23-'24 pilot of new courses -EDU 2200 Early Fieldwork & Community Engagement & EDU 2300 Teaching K-12 STEM in the Community) to include the evaluation and use of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and deepen Culturally Responsive Teaching practices. |

Building on the '23-'24 pilot, establish a third pre-practicum experience (PQP) to allow teacher candidates to observe/assist in their supervising practitioners classroom the term directly preceding their practicum. The associated coursework will focus on reflective practice and include discussion alongside a reflection journal. |

Cement an Internal & External program Advisory Board (meeting 1x/per semester) to oversee program structure, scope & sequence of coursework, review TPP program data and make recommendations as to new curriculum or pedagogical resources in the field of education. |

| Goal #1 |
Hire a new program director to invigorate the program, teach courses and collaborate with the team to increase the diversity of teacher candidates and enhance the focus on equity and access in the teacher prep program. |
| Goal #2 |
Restructure the current program model to interleave connections between the seven essential core competencies of CAP, pre-practicum experiences and the practicum. Embed culturally responsive teaching practices into coursework and workshops. |
| Goal #3 |
Explore and develop establishing an EDU prefix for teacher prep courses with the end goal of developing a minor in STEM education at WPI. This is to formally acknowledge the time commitment of coursework and fieldwork for students pursuing teacher licensure in conjunction with their undergraduate STEM major. |
